Orff Schulwerk emphasizes movement and music for children and Gloria uses movement to introduce mallet technique to the youngest students. Improvisation is another component important in the Orff method and the activities for intermediate and advanced players include many opportunities for student creativity.
Children of all ages need to acquire the experiences necessary for success in the music classroom. These experiences include, speech, body percussion, movement, singing and playing instruments with improvisation included throughout.
Gloria Fuoco-Lawson is a nationally recognized Orff Schulwerk Specialist having over 32 years of teaching experience as an elementary music teacher. She holds a undergraduate degree in music education from Colorado State University, and graduate degree in music education from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. She completed the Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training Course at the University of Denver and the master class at Memphis State University. She has taught Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training Levels Courses for over 25 years across the United States including California, New Mexico, Nevada, Mississippi, and Florida. The past ten years she has taught the Level I Basic and Level II Recorder for West Chester University, Samuel Barber Institute of Music.
