Michael Ruel Nichols (1947-2018) lived in Sylva, North Carolina, where he directed church choirs, taught as a adjunct faculty member for Western Carolina University's Music Department, was assistant director for the Western Carolina Community Chorus, and performed with The Cullowee Consort and the Carolina Consort, two early music ensembles.
A retired elementary music teacher with 30 years experience, Michael received his B.S. and M.M.E. degrees from WCU and completed three levels of Orff Schulwerk training and many master classes at the University of Memphis.
