Brent has been a folk singer since 1967, and a member of Shen Fine since 2001. He stopped performing in 1973 to begin a teaching career that lasted 33 years. During that time he "performed" in the classroom with kindergarteners through middle schoolers. Officially, he taught classroom music and choir in elementary and middle school.
Brent's classroom experience took him throught the world of music with the perspective of a teacher and a learner. He saw some amazing things and hundreds of stirring performances of a wide variety of musical styles from Opera to African Marimba ensembles. All of these experiences enriched his classroom teaching and is now inspiring his folk music career.
Brent plays a Takamine 12-string circa 1973, a 1999 Martin 2-DR, and a 1998 Peterson Octave Mandolin. He plays the 12 string exclusively in DADGAD tuning and the Martin goes back and forth between DADGAD and EADGBE. The Octave Mandolin is tuned GDGC.
Brent has released two CD's of Hymns and Songs of the Brethren with the help of some friends. He has led singing and worship in many settings over the years. These CD's contain some of the folk songs from the Brethren/Mennonite hymnal used in those settings.
Both of these songs are available through CD Baby. Buy a copy or listen to some highlights of Hymns and Songs of the Brethren Brent Holand Hymns for a Baby Boy at the CD Baby Website. Brent Hol
